The Colorado Law Enforcement Training Center, or CLETC, as it is known locally, was an original vision of former Mesa County Sheriff Riecke Claussen. After Sheriff Claussen was term limited out of office, Sheriff Stan Hilkey kept that vision in his sights, hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony for the site in 2013. During Sheriff Hilkey's tenure, a partnership was formed between Colorado Mesa University, the City of Grand Junction and Mesa County Government, to create and maintain CLETC.
CLETC is an 80 acre site featuring a $1.4 million 7/8 mile driving track with an 18 foot observation tower and a 120 x 270 foot concrete skid pad. When completed, this multi-phase project will also include a shooting range, a simulated city block, a classroom building, a fitness course and a fire training area. CLETC was built to serve all law enforcement agencies in the region.
