The 21st Judicial District approved the Mesa County Detention Facility to oversee an alternative sentencing program in 2006. The purpose of the Alternative Sentencing Unit is to incarcerate sentenced offenders in a safe and humane facility in order to provide inmates an opportunity to complete a court ordered sentence in a less restrictive environment while allowing them the ability to maintain employment and provide financial support for them and/or their family.
