The wildland/urban interface is a zone where human-made improvements intermix with wildland fuels. Mesa County has followed the trend throughout the country for increased growth and development in the interface. With this increased growth comes corresponding increase in exposure for the nation's wildland and structural firefighters to interface fires. It is therefore critical to find ways to increase the safety of homeowners and firefighters under these conditions.
Every year many families unnecessarily lose their homes and possessions to wildland fire. These losses can be minimized if homeowners take the time to become aware of safety measures to help protect their homes and complete some effective actions.
