Open Records Request

Sheriff Stan Hilkey and staff strive for efficiency at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. We hope that providing these simple guidelines and form on our website produce an easier way for you to request Criminal Justice Records & Public Records that reside within our agency.

Keep in mind, some 'Public Records' are not the work product of this agency. If you are unclear what agency to make a request to for a 'Public Record,' we encourage you to start here and we will notify you if your request falls under Mesa County Government purview. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office releases records in accordance with C.R.S. 24-72-204.

'Criminal Justice Records' are the primary source of work product we handle at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, and we release these records in accordance with C.R.S. 24-72-304. Please be aware, there are some state mandated redactions to protect the identity of sex assault victims.

Finally, not all records are kept forever and older records are kept off-site which could cause a short delay in their availability. In accordance with Colorado Open Records laws, inspection of our records will be available within three business days of your request. Extenuating circumstances might result in a 7 business day extension to the 3 day rule. In any event, we will do our very best to process your request in a very timely manner.

At this time, we only accept Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) submissions via U.S mail or in person at our office. Our office is located at 215 Rice Street, Grand Junction, Colo. and is open to the public Monday through Friday, except observed holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you choose to mail your form into our office, address it to:
