The Court Services Unit is staffed by sworn deputies and civilian officers who maintain a constant presence in the Justice Center while it is open for business. Court Services deputies are responsible for law enforcement services in and around the Justice Center, controlling a security check point, maintaining order in the courtroom and transporting inmates from the courtroom to the detention facility as well as transporting inmates both locally (i.e. from the youth detention facility to court or hospital, etc) and long distance (i.e. to Dept. of Corrections or extraditions from other jurisdictions).
The Mesa County Justice Center
It is estimated that the Mesa County Justice Center receives close to a half million visitors a year which is double the number of travelers that pass through the Grand Junction Regional Airport checkpoints each year. Visitors to the Justice Center will encounter security screening very similar to what is in place at most airports. Signs will direct you to the appropriate entrance where you will be asked to walk through a metal detector.
All hand carried items must be placed through an x-ray machine and when required, will be hand searched. You may be requested to remove your shoes, belt, or other articles including items in your pockets. The purpose of this screening is to prevent restricted weapons or contraband from being brought into the justice center.
